“Explore the Secrets of Huntsville at the 2021 NEC,” a SGMP virtual event on July 26, 2021, was a great way to learn about the activities and events NEC attendees can explore while in Huntsville in September. Attendees watched a short clip from “The Late Late Show Goes to Space Camp” to see the Davidson Center for Space Exploration, the location of the NEC Opening Reception.

Jamie Koshofer, Vice President of Conventions for Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, shared special locations from the Huntsville Art Trail, which has 18 different art pieces to explore throughout the downtown area. Along the way, you can stop by restaurants like Phat Sammy’s, a tiki-themed bar and restaurant on Jefferson Street, or Humphrey’s Bar and Grill, a New Orleans-style restaurant. While in Huntsville, attendees can enjoy the art trail, craft cocktail trail, craft beer trail, and more.

Marie Arighi, CHSP, CMP, CGMP, Director of Sales & Events Services for the Von Braun Center, led the group through trivia and fun facts about Huntsville. Huntsville is home to the largest jukebox in the country! Did you know that Elvis Presley sold out five shows in a row in Huntsville? Or that the co-founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, was born and raised in Huntsville?

Tecumseh Deloney, CMP, CGMP, Gilmer Institute of Learning Scholarship & Certification Trustee and 2021 NEC Chair, shared exciting education updates and other things to do during the NEC, including the Sam Gilmer Awards, networking and more.

Jamie shared upcoming events happening in Huntsville after the conference for attendees who want to stay a few extra days in the area. Thank you to our friends at the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Von Braun Center for sharing all the fun activities attendees can participate in during their time at the 2021 NEC!
