Planner Bootcamp

Are you getting started with meeting planning for government events or simply want to step up your skills? This Planner Boot Camp will share best practices and standards in the hospitality industry for setting up government meetings, conferences and events which include timelines, requests for proposals, contract negotiations, food and beverage procedures, function room setups, audio visual needs and sample tasks lists. Learn what you need to know when planning a government meeting whether at the local, state or federal level. Make plans to learn something new from Anita Yearwood, CGMP, CMP, Director of Stewardship Events in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at Virginia Commonwealth University. Whether you are brand new or a seasoned government meeting and events planner, there is something new for everyone.

Business Etiquette and Protocol Bootcamp

Mastering customer engagement at meetings large and small can make a difference in how you and your work are perceived. Relationships across your organization or company and with customers, partners and colleagues are so critical to success with government meetings. This is why it is worth your time learning what you need to know about business etiquette, cyber courtesy, and military meetings so you can make a positive, lasting first impression whether you plan or provide goods and services for government meetings. Learn from Kathleen Ryan, CGMP, a Customer Engagement Team Lead at Boeing, retired Air Force Officer and former Chief of Protocol for the Department of the Air Force as she walks you through what you need to know from how to handle digital communication, to where to put your phone, and how to socialize and conduct business at the dining table. Kathleen will explain what you need to know about attending and hosting and attending military meetings, including demystifying ranks and abbreviations, appropriate seating, how to appropriately address military officers, and other common practices.
